From width to complex response

Explore 50 saved full-wave TE ridge calculations. Every row was checked at 49 and 65 spatial harmonics. Controls select computed data; they do not launch a solver.

1. Choose a ridge width

Transmission T
Reflection R
Phase of t
Teal: transmitted power · Orange: reflected power

2. Inspect the available phase arc

The dashed circle marks |t|=1. Here T=1.5|t|² because the exterior indices differ. The dotted circle marks the requested minimum power: eligible points lie on or outside it. Muted points fail that power threshold; the purple ray marks the target phase and the purple ring marks the nearest eligible row. Orange marks the width being inspected.

3. Request a phase and test feasibility

Feasible means a circular phase error ≤5° and the requested minimum T within this discrete library. A nearest row can still miss the target.

Model and evidence

Period 0.65 µm · Height 0.60 µm · Free-space wavelength 1.55 µm · Normal incidence · Ridge index 2.4 · Gap/incident index 1 · Substrate index 1.5. All indices are ideal, constant, real values. Only order m=0 propagates on either side.

Time dependence exp(−iωt). The incident Ey is one at z=0. Reflection is referenced to z=0 and transmission to z=height. The ridge is invariant along y; this is a TE, one-dimensional grating, with no absorption, material dispersion, finite-array simulation, or fabrication data.

The library passed analytic film tests, harmonic refinements, and a separate grcwa implementation comparison. Both implementations use RCWA; no FDTD/FEM or experimental comparison is claimed.
