From a phase ramp to an outgoing beam

Compare four saved full-wave TE supercells with their local unit-cell predictions. Controls switch verified geometries; they do not run a solver.

Transmitted power by diffraction order

Teal: full-wave incident-normalized power. Orange: local-mask estimate.

An open order can carry zero power. The local mask omits the collective Maxwell boundary solution and need not conserve power.

Incidence is normal. Glass-side orders −3 through +3 are open; air-side reflection supports −2 through +2. The desired direction for the reversed sequence is −1.

Model and numerical evidence

All ridges in a sequence share one height. They are invariant along y, with TE Ey, real constant indices, and exp(−iωt). Reflection is referenced to z=0 and transmission to z=height. This is an infinitely repeated supercell; it has no finite aperture or material dispersion.
